It was a great day on Monday, 9th August 2010 when two Scientists, Prof David Cantrill and Dr Andrew Hamer came to Olive Branch Campus to give speeches, plant some trees and mingle with students, parents, teachers, staff, the principal and councilors to discuss current progress in Australian biodiversity research. The event was to celebrate National School Tree Planting Day and National Science Week 2010.
Apart from their lectures, the Scientists also planted trees with students, teachers and staff. Approximately 100 trees were planted and the trees were provided by Wyndham City Council as part of College involvement in School Tree Day.
The event ended with lunch (BBQ) together and it appeared that all participants were pleased. Time was extended for Year 11 Biology when they spent other 20 minutes to discuss with David and Andrew about Australian Biodiversity.
Last but not least, we would like to thank all staff, teachers, students, Scientists and Councilors for making this day wonderful.
This event is supported by CSIRO Education, Wyndham City Council and Al-Taqwa College.
